Recently, we came across the work of James White from Signalnoise.com. His work has a fresh and vibrant persona with a prism-colored palette and geometrical forms. These are the signature attributes to his style. Within this combination, James creates a sense of motion and fluidity with an almost three-dimensional quality to his work. Oh, did I mention he is prolific?? A quick visit to his website reveals an expansive body of work. From his beginnings with watercolors, human forms and skulls to intergalactic color schemes and crystalline forms, James expresses the themes of exploration and evolution through his work.
There is a particular series I want to call attention to, which is based on the opening sequence of Richard Donner’s Superman from the late 70’s. James has created a variety of explorations in reinventing the crystalline planet of Krypton. All of them with their own unique flair and individuality.

What’s great about James and his work, particularly this “Krypton” series, is that he’s very transparent in his process. His website is almost a journal of his evolution as an artist. I found a post that sheds light on the origins of his Superman inspiration. It is refreshing and inspiring to see an artist let the world into his thought process. I have to applaud James for this. It proves he is a genuine man of his craft.
